Advaita "a single word is language, a single action is sum of all"

Zen Buddhism and advaita sounds so much the same. What if we had to model our society on basis of advaita teachings. It will be radical to say the least. If you consider yourself being part of whole, and more importantly "whole" being sum of parts, the world looks different.
Take for example criminal procedures, which derives heavily from biblical saying:
"if anyone slew a person - unless it be for murder or for spreading mischief in the land - it would be as if he slew the whole people; and if anyone saved a life, it would be as if he saved the life of the whole people"
So crime against one human being, would be considered crime against society, hence making accused outsider to social structure. While if one seriously look at advaita model, a society in general is at wrong for wrong done to an individual.

Also looking a learning/education, if one assumes advaita model, "one look at a part, one can visiualize the whole". Stress is on our sub-concious ability to see, wider than the spectrum offered to our physical being. I cannot help but qoute what G H Hardy stated "my own greatest contribution to mathematics was the discovery of Ramanujan". Ramanujan was an Indian mathematician and one of the undisputed mathematical geniuses of the twentieth century. He had uncanny mathematical manipulative abilities, as judged by other experts. He excelled in heuristic aspects of number theory, and insight into modular functions. He also made significant contributions to the development of partition functions and summation formulas involving constants such as π.

A child prodigy, he was largely self-taught in mathematics and had compiled over 3,000 theorems by the year 1914 when he moved to Cambridge. Often, his formulas were merely stated, without proof, and were only later proven to be true. His results were highly original and unconventional, and have inspired a large amount of research and mathematical papers; many have been slow to enter the mathematical mainstream. Recently his formulae have started to be applied in the field of crystallography, and have other applications in physics. The Ramanujan Journal was launched to publish work "in areas of mathematics influenced by Ramanujan".

One could wonder, his abilities part of cultural embedding of advaita. It shall remain an open question

Birthplace

We are the children of the rain
Of the cloud woman,
Brother to the stone and bat
In our cradle of bamboo and vine
In our long houses we slept,
And when morning came
We were refreshed.

There were no strangers
in our valley.
Recognition was instant
as clan by clan we grew,
and destiny was simple
like a green shoot
following direction
like the sun and moon.

The first drop of water
gave birth to man.
From red sheath
to green stem
and the spreading wind:

We descend
from solitude and miracles

Master of jack

Master of Jack/Kream/Karim/Aniruddha Sankar, what ever you call him, is intriguing personality. Is he a lawyer, software professional, person involved with alternative pedagogy or self professed master of jack. Offline and online conversation, meeting over 3 years of knowing each other, fragmented at best. He is currently involved with CyberMohalla project at Sarai.

His website doesn't explain anything. Looking forward to meeting up with him and knowing more about his work in spheres of Indic Computing, Law, Free/Libre Open Source Software.

This post could make a nice continuing set, "People behind Software". Kind of playing around with the idea

nahi milli

Esa nahi ke hum ko mohabbat nahi mili
Jesi chahtey they hum ko woh ulfat nahi mili,

Milney ko zindgi main kai hum-safar miley
Per un ki tabiyat se hamari tabiyat nahi mili,

Chehron main doosroo ke tumhain doondtey rahey
Surat nahi mili kahin seerat nahi mili,

Bohat der se aaya too mere paas kiya kahoon
Alfaaz doondney ki bhi mohalat nahi mili,

Tujh ko gilla raha ke tawajja na di tujhey
Lakin humain khud apni rafaqat nahi mili,

Her shaks zindgi main bohat der se mila
Koi bhi cheez waqt-e-zaroorat nahi mili,

Hum ko to teri aadat achi lagi Faiz
Afsoos ke tujh se meri aadat nahi mili

Mystery tribe of south

Every conversation with a friend, leaves me with curiosity to know more. Hebbar Iyengar, a small community of brahmins in south of India who speak a mix of Kannada, Tamil and Sanskrit. Some peculiar customs, some familiarity of face structure. There origins, how they relate to Ramanujam and Visishtadvaita, is Publius Enigma left to solve.

Blogging, is it the mammoth killer

Few weeks back JAM, Mumbai based magazine carried a article examining the claims in the ads of IIPM. Few bloggers syndicated the article. Recently they have been issued notice by IIPM legal cell.

What makes the whole issue funny, is the shoddy way in which these institutes deal with online media, where they are masters of offline.

So do we finally have the disruptive technology in sphere of media. Breaking the hegemony of media conglomerates. Or we are just pawns for bigger online mammoths to come. Only time can tell.

Do read Guarav's post on the issue.

in motion!

Captured in motion, and slotted into a photo frame. Beautiful it might be, is still not home. Suddenly the thought of moving has brought back new ideas, expressions, anxieties. Nothing to look back, apart from some stair-case conversations, few droplets of rain, pinch of madness and pink earrings. Did I miss that baajuband, oh yes that too. As beautiful as the soft shoulder of wearer, who left it.

The magnetic fields

I know you've tried
I know you've cried
I know you've died a little inside, but...

Baby you could be famous

You could see your marble face all around
Baby you could be famous
If you could just get out of this town
Just get out of this town now

Baby you could be famous
You could sell the world a new look and sound
Baby you could be famous
If you could just get out of this town
Just get out of this town now

You sold your soul to rock 'n' roll
Gave up control
But here's your loophole:

You are the queen of every scene
You are the king of everything

Divine Comedy

I am:
a work in progress;

“the leftness in the right…
I’m the half-truth in the lie
I’m the why not in the why”
(that’s a tiny tribute to the band which is my virtual namesake);

and, as u can see, i am a blatant and guilt-free plagiariser.

camera working

Basic premise of my life has been accumulate as much as you can. But sometimes one ends up questioning those beliefs. That questioning happened when I was part of workshop. My team-mate for the workshop was Sudarshan (unemployed mechanical engineer). Bubbling with sense of creative potential.
He asked me to take a look at his blog, which I did after a week. Truth is I am impressed by set of images on his blog. Only thing , I could think of was to offer him my Vivitar SLR camera which is sitting on the shelf doing nothing. Hopefully you will put it to bettter use.

So Sudarshan, in case you are reading this, pick it up from me.

Comfortably numb

Some times I feel, I am heading towards intellectual bankruptcy. Conversations are mediated, not to offend anyone. Subject taken up, so it doesn't go beyond barrier of comfort. Normal conversation goes like

A> Hi, how are you doing
B> Good, just went to market bought ABC
A> Oh, nice. So whats the plan for tonight.
B> Nothing much sweetie, we might go to XYZ pub/discotheque/insert B's favorite hang out place. Want to come
A> Oh sure. Love to, could you pick me up.
B> Yeah sure

There can be so much more to life than this. Am I in wrong company or I have become a different person. Just need to find out for myself

Smoke Screen

Short interview on my opinion of whats happening in Karanataka(IT.com/IT.in), many thoughts, some expressed, some left unsaid. So this is my way of saying out loud about current state of the state.

Very costly smoke screen is being prepared for every one to see. Government is backing in the fact so much buying power is there. But how much of this is real. Pot-holes in main road, main roads the size of side-lanes, side-lanes the size of parking queue.

So pull and push of current state and empty aspirations leaves people and the city in dilemma. Only way out is to pump loads of money into Bangalore. But at what cost. North Karanataka is suffering and burning. But who cares.

Everything so rosy from here in Bangalore but for few problems, but quick fix solutions are on there way, one bridge on Hosur Road and one on Marathalli and world will be perfect. Or so we think

Then again a conversation with fellow "techie"
SS(me)> You crib about bangalore so much, why do'nt you go back
SV> Delhi they pay less, actually I would'nt get the hike I am getting here.
SV> Boss, money is just keeping me here, I doubled my salary in this year
SS> What if the boom disappears as it did in 2000-2002
SV> Nothing I will just resign and fly to Delhi
SV> Till then you and me can enjoy a nice cup of Coffee at Barista. I have to go back though before six( traffic rush you know).

"Tech-Savvy" companies are making money, but not enough to finance a state. So why this whole push towards putting them at pedestal. Government of Karantaka should write a marquee in bold on "Vidhana Soudha" "Kick me"

Light Bulb

While walking into Rusell Market, Bangalore. We (tahir/me) planning to take some nice pictures. The moment we entered, there it was the great light bulb. Trying to get it into a frame with filament and all the details in background was a might challenge.
